I'd like to have a go at the llama gymkhana - I missed the one in April as I was on my honeymoon.

I'd think I'd prefer the llama event as it was last year (when I couldn't go) - more of the day spent trekking and not half of it playing games in a field (even with llamas) while all that lovely countryside is waiting to be explored.

Hi Martin. Message board is great but do we have the facility to chat direct with members or a chat room?

Hi Psaun

No we don't have a chat room I'm afraid, but as Silky points out, you can chat direct to an individual through the Private Messaging part of the message boards.

That would be great, video chat with other spicers!! come on Martin get your Flash / HTML for dummies book out and start programming Smile LOL

I've often thought the Spice website / forum could do with updating. I wonder if there are plans to upgrade?

Actually does anybody know whether it costs money to run a message board / chat room. I suspect it requires a server and good internet connection but does the actual software cost anything?

The Spice Website is in the process of a total over-haul which will then be more standardised accross the groups. East Midlands have gone live with the pilot one here

East Mids

So any comments welcome.

The message boards are not part of the Spice site as such but the space is rented from a message board company. There is an annual cost for this as there would be for a chat room.

Hi Stewie

Thanks for the suggestion of a Chat Room.

This has been debated long and hard many times at Co-ordinators meetings over the years, and the current thinking is that we don't wish to offer a chat room at the moment.

As you may be aware, we (as owner & host) can be liable for chat room messages, assults, lawbreaking, etc, both for these message boards and also chat if we offered it, and so it would need very careful monitoring.

We find this message board already takes quite alot of our time and recources, but is only used by a very small number of members (about 350 individuals a month). We know its highly valued by this group, and many are our 'hard core members' so we really appreciate the immediate and constant feedback we get from our users. However, we don't think its good use of our resources and time, to add a chat room.

This board costs us approx. £2 grand a year for hosting, storage, upgrades, etc, so a decent board which is busy and without ad's does cost. Chat rooms can be enabled but would cost more. We did consider enabling more features such as chat rooms, for those that want them, at a small additional supplement, but this was not popular.

Thus we will leave Chat Rooms to the experts for the time being!

Hope that helps.
