Hi Liz

We do try and spread them around the week a bit. We have Katherine Howard on next Tuesday, but then the next 2 theatre nights - Jerry Springer and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - are both on Thursdays. After that we have Blue Remembered Hills which is a Tuesday again and then Strangers on a Train which is on a Wednesday.

Regards

Martin

I’ve done two of these with Spice, the first was an event hosted by Manchester Spice near Betws-y-coed under the guise of Basic Military Training and the other more general survival training with a supplier near Aberystwyth. Both were really good, very realistic and very useful, as much as a mental and attitude thing as well as skills, but not something for everyone.

Unfortunately not well supported by members but the public made up the numbers.

If interested a bushcraft weekend with a supplier in Devon has just appeared on the Birmingham events list – 12 May.

Hi people

At my first event, I was chatting with Johnno about going to a Northern Soul night. Would anyone else be up for this?

How about a night at the Dogs at Belle Vue? Been a few times and good laugh. You can book to have meal in the restaurant and they collect your bets from the table.

Or a Day at Chester/Haydock races?

New member so looking forward to doing lots of different things!!

Would be handy if events with loads of availability which suddenly become fully booked week or weeks before event had some form of advance warning as people hold off for all sorts of reasons till nearer the time. Fully appreciate that things need confirming but a little post perhaps or note on the event description with last poss booking date would be good.

I'm not really a Northern Soul fan as such but love soul music in general. the Willows at Salford have Stax of Soul (although I think they've recently changed their name) on pretty regularly. They are a brill soul band and the Willows has supervised parking, meals and disco too. A good night out. Hows about it Johno?

What about a Drawing for Beginners day ? I would love to see if I am capable of producing something recognisable, but although I have investigated numerous Adult Ed places and websites, the courses, even at "beginner" level, seem to be for those with a reasonable idea already... perhaps did O level Art years ago but are rusty. I need a course for people who find even drawing a shapeless blob challenging.

Sorry, it's me again - my brain is obviously going into overdrive at the moment...

I went on the Gawsworth event yesterday, and it was lovely, but there were one or two little problems with the arrangements that got me to thinking. I followed the instructions in the e-mail about meeting up, and the co-ordinator was there waiting just as stated. Soon, another member arrived, and we waited and waited (14 expected all together) but nobody came, so eventually we decided to go and picnic. Two more arrived during the picnic and another just as we finished. We wondered whether everyone else was coming on later after the football, but when we settled in our seats, everyone was there: yes, some had never intended to join in the picninc, but some were grumbling that they could not find the picnic and had had to eat alone. So...

1. Could there be a request, when booking events where there will be food sharing, for people to indicate whether they intend to participate ? Lots of food was wasted because we had catered for far higher numbers than actually turned up: opened and barely started packets of stuff had to be thrown away, as did a lot of the home-cooked stuff I had taken because with the heat it was too risky to take it home for the next day.

2. Three people who had missed the picnic and were complaining about it admitted that they had not read the e-mail with arrangements. As one put it, "Oh, I just saw it was a Spice confirmation thingy so I deleted it without reading it as I already knew I was booked on the event." Maybe with the new system the title line needs to be more attention grabbing: something like "IMPORTANT - Spice event update" so that people will realise there might be something they need to see.

This isn't a grumble - the event was great (for those of us who followed the instructions, anyway ! - it's just a few thoughts.

Re: The Feedback Form

To be honest I dont think I'll ever get round to posting a feedback form. I have one here unsent, with a shopping list written on the back. The effort of finding a stamp (does anybody ever have a spare stamp?), an envelope and then traipse to post box? Pain in the bum.

Would it not be easier to download a form/template from the web site and email it back? Thus saving a lot of effort, stamps, and bits of paper.

You could even do it via the web site, but that requires a bit more effort to set up.

Do you want to Ginga?

What about an intro to Capoeira?

Straight from the favelas of Brasil a gymnastic dance accompanied by some weird and wonderful musical instruments. To watch the experts is amazing, flips, handstands, spins.

Its fantastic exercise as well a cross-cultural experience, though probably not for those who are unfit or infirm.

Hi Tio - there is an Events feedback board on the message boards. There is also an on-line feedback area Here and you can also email me direct on Martin@spicemcr.com with any specific feedback.
