Hi everyone

Here's the chance for all you Manchester message boarders to let Johno and I know of any events you'd like to see in future Spice Manchester newsletters. I know some of you have already made suggestions elsewhere on the board, however it would be helpful if all suggestions can be added to this string, enabling us to organise (where possible) suggested events.

Thanks in advance.

Martin

I've done Land Yachting with Spice and it was a great day. I'd like to try it again. I know that it has it's risks, but so do most things in life.

Here's one I'd like to see........

The Restaurant Safari is a great idea. Having spoken to many people on this, we all agree that the idea should be extended to more meals than the Sarafina in Wilmslow. Its a great concept so why not do it at other venues?

Sports:

Rollerblading - err, I might pass on this from my experience

Basketball - can you not book one game at least to see the response?

Netball - any excuse to see women in short skirts

Aeroball - Basketball on a trampoline. Armitage Centre, Stretford used to do this, don’t know whether they still do.

Handball - combination of soccer, basketball and rugby, played in Denmark.

Adventure:

Tackling the Holcombe Moor assault course - why have Spice never done this?

Sword swallowing - follows on from fire eating and circus skills, although I might have bitten off more than I can chew here !

Swimming with dolphins.

Land yachting - as suggested above by Paul, I never tried this again after I booked on it and it got cancelled.

Spice meets the gladiators

Field gun challenge - this was a great event in itself in “It’s A Knockout” in Abingdon few years ago, although you need more obstacles and teams race against each other dismantling and assembling a mock field gun. Similar to the military event.

Fire rescue - teams use the training buildings and breathing equipment that the fire brigade use to rescue a trapped casualty(dummy) in a smoke filled building. This requires teamwork using rope, signals and searching a building in which visibility is virtually nil. Obviously you need to be using breathing apparatus and there is the inherent danger element.

Social:

Karoke evening in the style of “Night Fever”

Music Quiz - or music section on pub quiz to identify theme tune(s) or song(s).

Camcorder challenge - Teams are given odd(?) props and given a challenge to come up with a story utilising these props. The twist is that the story has to be done in a particular movie/ acting style e.g. historical drama, science fiction, western , “Baywatch”.

Murder mystery weekend with couples attempting to solve the murder, while acting as famous murder solving characters e.g. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson, Chief Inspector Maigret & Lucas, Chief Inspector Morse & Det. Sgt. Robbie Lewis , Miss Marple & Detective Inspector Slack, Colombo & sidekick, Sam Spade & sidekick, Charlie Chan & “Number One Son” etc.

Themed fancy dress dinners e.g. Western, Horror, Gangster

Beginner’s Riverdance dance class, Spice Birmingham ran this event in year 2000.(Sounds like it should be a Busted song)

Like to see more things like the Bramhall Hall private guide and meal afterwards. Really enjoyed that. How about Little Morten Hall, Speake, Addlington or Lyme Park? Didn't you used to do Christmas at Chatsworth or have I missed that?

Also, what has happened to the Field Archery near Burton? Another fun day out with a good lunch thrown in. Very Robin Hoodesque.

Hi Martin and Julia,

As SPICE MANCHESTER is a quarter of a century next year, are there or will there be any plans for a Birthday Bash to celebrate 25 years of Spice?

Sounds like a good excuse for a party to me (not that Spicers need an excuse to enjoy themselves!)

Smile

Hi
Would love to see the re-appearance of the Beach Party at Waterworld Stoke or similar venue that was great fun.

Its a knockout event - with inflatables, water and usual daft games. This would be great fun.

A bit of a pub crawl and then off to a nightclub somewhere, preferably with a decent size dance floor and over 25's.

Apparently there is a new cabaret place in gay village, Cinderellas. This sounds like fun.

I would like to see some Classical Music concerts on the schedule. The NW has some great orchestras, including The Halle and The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, plus some smaller ensembles from RNCM, Chethams and others.

There are also some outdoor performances, such as the Last Night of the Proms at Tatton Park; a great excuse for a picnic by the lake.

I am pretty sure that these would be as popular as theatre nights and Spice would benefit from group discounts.

Hi Sniffer

We do attend occaisional concerts at the Bridgewater Hall and also at Stockport too, so watch out for those.

We have also been to the Tatton Hall outdoor concerts for the past several years but, unless anyone knows any different, they do not appear to be running any this year. We are on the lookout for an alternative.

It has indeed, but not for a while so may be time for a return visit.

I have also now got details of the people who have replaced the company that did the Tatton Park concerts, so book the 10th September in your diaries for Party at the Proms.
