Complete Beginners Guide to registering.

It has been commented on other boards that one thing putting people off registering and posting is that they are not sure where to start. So here is the beginners guide to getting started – registering and posting. Whilst going through the Registration process you may find it useful to print this out to have it to refer to.

This is intended as a fool-proof guide to getting started so please let me know if anything is difficult to follow even using this guide.

Registering:

This is essential as you cannot post any messages without registering first:

Step 1: On the right hand side of the blue bar above this topic it should say “You are not logged in. Login or Register.” Click on “Register”

Step 2: You will now see a lit of conditions relating to use of the board. Read through and then click on “Register” button at the bottom.

Step 3: Fill in registration form. Any box that is Yellow MUST be completed. The “Gender” tick box is also a mandatory field. White boxes are optional. Your Username is the name you will need to log-in under. The Display name is the one that will be displayed on the boards. These will usually be the same, but you may wish to use your real name to log in with in case you forget your Registered name! At this stage do not worry about any of the bits that are not familiar to you such as Avatars and ICQ numbers – these are not necessary and can wait until you’re happy with the basics!

Step 4: You will now see a “Thank you for registering” box. Click “continue”

Step 5: You should now see at the top right corner “Hello” and then your user name instead of “You are not logged in. Login or Register.”. However, you will not be able to post until your email address has been verified. You will receive an email titled “email confirmation request”. In the body of the email will be a link – click on this link. You should now see a box confirming that your email address has been verified. Click continue. You are now ready for posting.

Posting:

To reply to an existing topic:

Click on the topic you want to reply to. Scroll down to the bottom and you will see a button saying “reply”. Fill in the box with the details of your posting. Once you have finished click “post now”. After a couple of seconds the topic should re-appear with your posting at the bottom.

To Start a new topic:

On the blue bar at the top left of the screen you will see “New” with a yellow folder icon next to it. If you click on this you will get three options – click on “discussion”. Type in the name that you want the topic to be called and then the body of the text and click “post now”. After a couple of seconds your topic should appear.

To avoid over-complicating things, that will do for now. This is enough to get you going with registering, posting replies and starting topics off. When you’re ready for getting more advanced with polls, avatars, signatures and other fancy stuff, post a question on the boards and the regulars will be more than happy to give any help needed.

Happy posting…

Martin

Martin,

You should talk to dave about maybe putting it at the top of the new members notice board.

Just an idea.

Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.

In the latest upgrade, topic was "rebranded" as "discussion". Lordy knows why Roll Eyes

Thanks for spotting that - the guide has now been altered.

No idea - but if you see him ask him what's wrong with it being a Topic!

It's just a rebranding exercise just like
Marathon and Snickers or Opal Fruits and Starburst.

Help me martin please! I have lost my minky and don't know what to do (sob)

It was fine until i tried putting a smiley face at the end of my message, and then minky vanished. I tried deleting the signature and retyping it but minky won't come back to play.

I miss him boo hoo hoo. Please help me.

Well, I've been trying to get my Hula Lady back for weeks now. Mad
Somebody messed with the boards again & now there are lots of boxes with red crosses, where once were endearing avatars. Frown

In your signature bit of your profile you need the following
quote:
[ IMG]http://www.gifs.net/animate/anigrla2.gif [ /IMG]

Only without the space after the [ above (in 2 places)

It could be a problem with the web site where the picture is hosted.

Dancing: A vertical expression of a horizontal desire.

Yes but that doesn't help with getting all these missing avatars back! The facility to enter your own, has been removed... Frown

I'm confused! I changed my gif to see if another worked and looked around the boards.

It works on some spice message boards
but not on others. Strange.

Doesn't take much to confuse me. I have minky here and itchy and scratchy on other pages!

Is it poss to have two gifs running at the same time?

Did you have a piccy before. As all I see is a missing piccy icon.

If not you need to request to be able to use HTML signatures.

Mainly there have been problems with the boards in one respect or another since they did an upgrade earlier this year.

I just checked your link manually and the gif is still there. It may be a problem with MCR board.

Martin please can you ask the tech. peeps to see why some avatars and signature gifs are displaying and not others. It appears to vary from board to board.

Also it appears PM notifications are hit and miss as well.

this is my first attempt to post a message on the boards, although I've been a member for two years, it's always looked very complicated to me. Hope it work.
